Votum – Lyndon M Fraser

The piece follows my works over the last few semesters on the topic of depression.
Votum is a personal project, it was done on canvass and the size is: 6ft by 4ft in acrylics and emulsion. It’s painted in monotone dark greys and black and while elements done in a surrealism style art and addresses the idea of humans suffering from depression, who feel broken and displaced in their own space and isolated. It represents the discovery of the recognition of God and offering the heart as an offering to aid in healing. Votum is Latin and was used in ancient Roman Religion, a Votum is a vow or promise made to a deity. The root word meaning Hope. The heart is dominant to show life and the element of continuance and strength.
